RADWANSKA WINS THE TITLE

Saturday, May 24 2008
2nd seed Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland won the singles title at Istanbul Cup 2008 by beating defending champion Elena Dementieva.
2nd seed Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland upset top seeded defending champion Elena Dementieva of Russia 6-3 6-2 to win the singles title at 2008 Sony Ericsson WTA Tour Final.

Dementieva started the match with six back to back winners to go up 2-0 but Radwanska fought back to level and prevailed by breaking in the eight game.

Radwanska fought impressively from the baseline and returned many difficult balls back to Dementieva, forcing the Russian into unforced errors.

As momentum turned towards Radwanska, Dementieva struggled to find her rythym and she gave her opponent a 5-1 lead in the second set.

Polish 2007 doubles champion, allowed Dementieva one more game but closed out the match in the next game and became the first player to have won both singles and doubles crowns of Istanbul Cup.
